All aboard, Girlfriends! We’re setting sail at Titanique for a kooky crazy time!

Titanique is a jukebox musical created by Tye Blue, Marla Mindelle, and Constantine Rousouli. The musical is a parody of the 1997 film Titanic and uses Céline Dion’s music. Originally premiering in Los Angeles in 2017, Titanique began an off-Broadway run at The Asylum Theatre in June 2022, before transferring to the Daryl Roth Theatre in November 2022.

After so many recommendations, I finally made my way to Titanique, and it did not disappoint. Admittedly, I had to do some research for this one. It looked like such a good show, but I had never seen Titanic (1997), so in preparation for this show, I had a little bit of homework to do.

I do think watching the film about a week prior to seeing the show was helpful, because the musical hinges on some of the details from the film. However, most of the punchlines of the show are either the very iconic pop-cultural reference from Titanic, or just general pop-culture references. I don’t think viewing the film prior is required, but it does deepen the understanding of some of what the cast is parodying.

This cast is such a blast and really what makes the show what it is. They have 90 minutes to have the audience in stitches and cheering, and they don’t waste a single second of it.

Let’s jump right to the star of the show, or the heart of the ocean, Nicole Parker as Céline Dion. Parker knocks this role out of the park. She has the humor of the caricature down, as well as the mannerisms, and keeps the audience on their toes for 90 minutes of the performance. Her vocals are the cherry on top of the performance.

Lindsay Heather Pearce is another standout with her performance as Rose. I’ve wanted to see Pearce perform live for so long, and I was so glad I was able to! I think this show really showcases her comedic ability and timing, and it was very evident that she is having a blast in this role.

Along with Pearce, Michael Williams plays the delightful Jack Dawson. He really captures Jack’s essence, and it is so fun to see him play along with the rest of the cast. His delivery is impeccable for some of the most hilarious bits on stage, and I don’t know how he can do it with a straight face.

The whole cast eats up every second of this performance, and it is evident they’re having a blast doing it. It makes it really fun as an audience member to see a cast having so much fun, and this was definitely a much-needed laugh.

I am so grateful to those who recommended this show to me and I definitely recommend it if you’re able to find your way down to the Daryl Roth Theatre.
